"A CUT IN TIME" - ArtWall Project Space
ARTWALL Project Space - Athens
«A Cut in Time» exhibition presents 8 photographers whose work measures time in three different speeds, present, past / or future. How do time narratives coincide, how may a present issue become a future enemy, or a source of absolution and redemption.
According to Derrida (Grosz 1999, p.1,) time is conceptualized through the transformation or decay of spaces and objects. However in a latter stage, the viewer is to reveal a whole new time dimension.
The true meaning of a photograph can exist only if the photographer is conscious of his presence in terms of time and space. (“The Decisive Moment”, Cartier-Bresson). Time as depicted in photography, whether staged or spontaneous, plays a decisive role in the final shot selected to represent an idea or concept. It this decision “a cut in time”, or a manifesto in which the present, future and past co-exist?
